Last month was a busy month for ISGM with a management restructure within the Telstra business unit and updates to the subcontractor KPIs and SORs. On top of this we’re setting the ground work for a new round of Industry Nights within the regions that will aim to provide subcontractors with some insights into where the growth areas are within the Telecommuncations industry. 
Management Restructure
ISGM’s Telstra business unit is growing rapidly. To support our field services team as the business grows, I am pleased to announce three new key roles that add strength and agility to the decisions that affect ISGM and our partnering subcontractors.
General Manager Construction – Darren Bedford
Darren comes into this position with over 27 years of experience working in a range of senior roles across the telecommunications sector. At ISGM, he has been instrumental in setting up our design capability when we first took on the Telstra D&C contract. More recently, in his role as State Manager Design and Construction (D&C) for the Northern region, Darren has demonstrated strong leadership skills and established broad relationships throughout Telstra which will help us to identify and capitalise on any new construction opportunities in the future.
National Design Lead – Heidi Fahey
Heidi joined ISGM in a KPI Analyst role at the beginning of the Telstra I&M contract and quickly demonstrated her ability to build responsive teams when she established our initial reporting capability. Last year she was appointed to the role of the Networks Business Manager and further developed the relationship between Telstra and the networks team. Heidi will now incorporate the Design part of ‘Design and Construction’ into her portfolio as we continue to develop our capability in this area to meet our client’s growing requirements.
General Manager I&M – Kym Martin (interim)
Kym will take on the GM Installation & Maintenance (I&M) role in an interim capacity for six months working out of SA and travelling regularly to NSW where we are experiencing rapid growth as a result of the I&M Faults Technician Training Program. By the time the bulk of the training program concludes at the end of the year, Central region will have close to 1,000 I&M technicians (existing and new) and over 40 team managers. Kym has been a driving force in the I&M business since the beginning of our contract with Telstra, five years ago. His work last year on the ‘Target 41K’ fault demolition program was instrumental in reducing Telstra’s customer’s wait times by delivering a substantial reduction in faults within an extremely short time frame.
Backfilling his position Dan Worthington will step up as interim State Manager I&M and Paul Korkodyllos will step up as interim State Management D&C for SA/NT.
Training Program in the news
Telstra was in the news on September 23, spruiking the I&M faults technician Training Program which is planning to put more than 850 new technicians in much needed areas.
The additional subcontractors in these areas will help improve customer service and cut wait times by increasing the number of resources available during high fault periods such as after severe weather events, and free up more experienced technicians to take on more complex tasks in quieter periods.
New SORs and KPIs
Hopefully by now everyone is aware of their new Schedule of Rates (SORs) and the FY17 KPIs. If you are not sure if you have seen them or you are not clear what they mean to you please contact your team manager. D&C subcontractors will also have received a new D&C Subcontracting Agreement via DocuSign. Thank you to those who have already signed. The new KPIs and SORs incorporate many of the issues our subcontractors raised in the feedback dinners earlier this year. I’m pleased with the general reception of the changes and feel the updates reflect a change in the general telecommunications environment.
